John served a private with the 4th Illinois Cavalry and was promoted to Quartermaster. He moved to Missouri in 1885.

Illinois Census of 1850, through 1880 shows John in Mt. Morris, Ogle County, in early 1900’s Missouri, Census shows John living in Big Apple Township, Oregon County, Missouri

Here lies a conflict:

John is listed being buried in two different cemeteries:

“Koshkonong Cemetery” of Big Apple Twp, Oregon Co, Missouri and in the “Oakwood Cemetery” so the records show in Mt. Morris Township, Ogle County, Illinois
